TIA 2011 Preview: Wireline's rising trends » India Telecom Tracker

Just as the wireline side of telecom transforms itself from regulated voice-only providers to IP-based multiservice providers, so too does the tradeshow that highlights the industry.

With the SUPERCOMM show’s demise now almost a two-year distant memory, the TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association)–one of two collaborators that developed the anchor telecom tradeshow in the 1980s–is moving into a new era with “Inside the Network,” taking place this week from Tuesday, May 17 to Thursday, May 19 at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.

Stopping short of calling Inside the Network the next SUPERCOMM, Grant Seiffert, President of TIA, said that in developing the education program, his team tried to focus on key issues the organizers thought were core to the transition wireline carriers have to make.

“When we developed our education track, we focused on issues we thought would be relevant and timely to the industry, including: converged networks, the mobile backhaul issue; and we’re very interested in how this convergence of the utility and telco markets come together under the smart grid,” Seiffert said in an interview with FierceTelecom . “I also see a lot of promise in the M2M or smart devices (space) so those are going to be the hot topics along with some of the other issues we are looking at from a policy perspective.”
