City raises fees on use of Upper Dells docks
The Wisconsin Dells Common Council raised the fees by about $3,000 that the Dells Boat Tours and the Dells Army Ducks pay for use of the Upper Dells Boat Docks near the Kilbourn Bridge.
The council's finance committee Monday first discussed the fees as part of a new contract with Dells Boat Tours and Dells Ducks, before passing the changes unanimously and sending it on to council Monday night. The council then also passed the revised contract.
Two months ago, Jason Field of Dells Army Ducks approached the finance committee about getting more space at the docks.
At that time, former Alderperson Dan Gavinski, who has resigned because he moved out of town, general manager of the Dells Boat Tours, said that no more space was available, that the tours still needed the spaces it rents and the area could not accommodate another dock.
Alderperson Debbie Kinder when the council was asked about that issue, said it had been decided before that no additional space was available for Field.
Monday, Alderperson Dar Mor said the goal of approving a new contract for use of the docks was to raise the fees to $8,000. To do that, he proposed that each company pay $2,500 for the first space and $750 for each additional space. Dells Boat Tours uses a total of five spaces so would pay $5,500, while Dells Army Ducks would pay $2,500.
Alderperson Brian Holzem, chair of the finance committee, said he thought the fees were relatively fair.
Mor and Holzem said Dells Boat Tours sets up the docks and does the maintenance. Under the terms of the agreement, the Boat Tours can bill the Army Ducks for costs associated with upkeep and utilities.
Mor said that part of the agreement "keeps us (the city) out of it.
