On Monday morning I was walking over to Rite Aid at 35 South Milpas to get some things middle aged people buy at a drug store.

As usual there were a couple panhandlers there this one guy was shaking like a leaf. He had to be a alcoholic, and to be shaking that hard he was ready to seize out. I was buying this one a drink having had been a member of AA many years and a former drunk myself I knew what was going to happen.

In order to prevent the guy from some misery and prevent Santa Barbara from just one more "Fire and Medic, not to mention SBPD call" I went in to Rite Aid and bought the guy a malt liquor. It was in the cart with the rest of my stuff when I rolled down the pharmacy aisle there he was shaking like HELL.

I stopped and told him if he meets me outside I'm buying him a beer, to stop the shakes. I know I turned beet red when he told me he has Parkinson's disease, Stopped me in my tracks. I told him about my friend Shakey and he asked "How's he getting along?"

I told him it was real rough for him to find a job because employers thought him to be alcoholic, or nuts. This panhandler didn't want Parkinsons disease he wanted to be healthy so he could work. He looked like he was having a real rough time.

I read a book by its cover, felt like an idiot, but laughed it off anyway. I saw that editorial where someone wrote something about not feeding the homeless unless they are involved in a program it got my goat too. I confronted the person via safe e-mail since I know whom wrote it, they told me that they did not mean it thatta way. I believe it not because I'm gullible but because this person is very compassionate, and dedicated to her work.

Then I remembered not all MCA members are cruel toward the homeless and the poor. In fact through the years I've seen a lot of charity come from business owners on Milpas Street for the less fortunate. So it's SNOT about running them all out by Sundown it's about cleaning up the streets. Twice in one day I must be slipping.
